Went to our local supermarket to buy tomatoes to make my lunch sandwich.  698 won per 100g so 4 tomatoes came to over 6,000 won.  Only one checkout operating, a woman paying for a small purchase with a 100,000 won check. The checkout woman, otherwise helpful and seemingly rational, held the check aloft and examined it carefully in front of the light to ensure it wasn't fake.  Satisfied, she opened her cash drawer to deposit it and offer change,  her hand on a 50,000 bill.  The customer requested 10,000 won bills.  Checkout woman assembles 7 of them and carefully counts them, turns them over and counts them again, adds several 1,000 won bills to complete the change, then counts the whole lot again.  I wait with my four tomatoes and a bunch of bananas.  Finally she finishes, and I am through.  Pinky waiting at the door, a youngish female is kneeling patting her, marveling at her good behavior waiting for her master.  Master appears and th...

Walked up towards the CU convenience store, a man sitting in front, slightly disabled bellowed out to Pinky who meekly walked up to him for a pat.  At first I thought he was shouting at the dog but it seemed his disability affected his mouth motor control.  Pinky received the affectionate hand, then abruptly turned to run home.  Back into the narrow side detour in front of the island  blocked with worker's trucks, stacks of blocks, electrical cables, sand, working detritus, and I had to follow.  Then on to the warmth of home, a truncated afternoon walk.  Still 0 degrees outside.
